You defense attorney's experience can make a difference in your criminal case. In criminal cases, experience means something more than years of law practice. Experience means understanding how prosecutors work, knowing how to prepare a solid defense and apply the law in a client's defense. This type of experience is gained only by actually trying criminal cases in front of juries and judges.

I am Jackie Rokusek, a criminal defense lawyer who serves clients in the Kansas City area. I bring more than 15 years of experience in criminal trials to your defense.

Many Kansas criminal defense lawyers rarely see the inside of a courtroom. Many more have never prepared a case for jury trial. They will take your money with no intent of investigating the facts of your case or researching possible defenses. Instead, the lawyer will simply try to persuade you to accept any plea bargain or diversion program the prosecutor is willing to offer.

How my defense is different - If you hire me, I will first investigate your case and look hard at the facts and legal issues. If there is a defense in your case, I will find it. I will not advise you to take a plea bargain or enter into a diversion contract without first reviewing the facts and the reports. I would never encourage a client to plead guilty to a charge when there is an opportunity for a dismissal or an acquittal.

I have been lead counsel on more than fifty jury trials and hundreds of bench trials in federal, state, and city courts in Kansas. As a former state and federal prosecutor, I understand how the other side prepares a criminal case.
