Kansas Drug Crimes Lawyer
There is no such thing as a minor drug conviction. Even if you don't have to go to jail, any drug conviction will result in a permanent criminal record that will follow you around for the rest of your life. That record could prevent you from obtaining student loans. It could also make it much harder to find a good job, since employers routinely conduct background checks of prospective employees.
I am Jackie Rokusek, a criminal defense lawyer who represents people charged with drug crimes in the Kansas City area, including Olathe, Shawnee, Lawrence, Leawood, Lenexa, Prairie Village, and Overland Park.
Before I became a defense attorney, I was a prosecutor with the Johnson County District Attorney's Office. There I served on the drug unit, handling cases such as:
-
Cocaine, crack, and marijuana possession
-
Possession with the intent to distribute
-
Drug trafficking
-
Drug manufacturing
-
Possession of paraphernalia
I later became a Special U.S. Attorney Federal Prosecutor focusing on methamphetamine laboratories and gun charges. As a result of my experience as a prosecutor, I know how municipal, state, and federal governments handle drug crime cases. I also know how to prepare your defense.
The defense of drug crime cases often has to do with the issue of unlawful search and seizure. As your lawyer, I would analyze whether the police officer did anything illegal in the stop, search, or seizure of drug evidence. If there is an issue with the police search and seizure, I will work to get the drug evidence suppressed.
If there is a defense to your drug crime charge, I will find it. I would never encourage a client to plead guilty to drug charges when there is an opportunity for a dismissal or an acquittal.
Your defense is too important to be left to an inexperienced lawyer. Contact me, criminal-trial attorney Jackie Rokusek, for a free consultation if you have been or expect to be charged with a drug crime in the Kansas City area.
