Are Fireworks Legal in Kansas & Missouri?

In some cities and towns in Kansas and Missouri, consumer (1.4g) and novelty fireworks are allowed for use. However, a local authority has the power to regulate when consumer fireworks can be discharged.

If you plan to set off fireworks this Independence Day, the following is a guide to where legal fireworks can be used in Kansas and Missouri:

  • Bonner Springs, KS – Allowed from 9 AM to 11 PM, but not within 100 feet of public property or retail stand.
  • Gardner, KS – Allowed from 10 AM to 11 PM, but not within 50 feet of public/private property, vehicles, and gas station, within 100 feet of fireworks stands, and within 1,000 feet of hospitals.
  • Kansas City, KS – Allowed from 9 AM to 11 PM; however, bottle and sky rockets are prohibited
  • Lansing, KS – Allowed from 12 PM until 11 PM; however, bottle rockets and roman candles are prohibited.
  • Lawrence, KS – Prohibited within city limits.
  • Leavenworth, KS – Only novelty fireworks (e.g. snakes, smoke balls, toy paper caps, and champagne bottle poppers) are allowed.
  • Leawood, KS – Prohibited within city limits.
  • Lenexa, KS – Only novelty fireworks (e.g. snakes, smoke balls, toy paper caps, and champagne bottle poppers) are allowed.
  • Merriam, KS – Prohibited within city limits.
  • Mission, KS – Prohibited within city limits.
  • Olathe, KS – Prohibited within city limits.
  • Overland Park, KS – Only novelty fireworks (e.g. snakes, smoke balls, toy paper caps, and champagne bottle poppers) are allowed.
  • Prairie Village, KS – Prohibited within city limits.
  • Roeland Park, KS – Prohibited in public parks without a special permit.
  • Shawnee, KS – Only novelty fireworks (e.g. snakes, smoke balls, toy paper caps, and champagne bottle poppers) are allowed.
  • Tonganoxie, KS – Allowed from 8 AM to 11 PM; however, bottle rockets are prohibited.
  • Belton, MO – Allowed from 10 AM to midnight; however, bottle rockets, sky rockets, and roman candles are prohibited.
  • Blue Springs, MO – Allowed from 10 AM to midnight.
  • Gladstone, MO – Prohibited within city limits.
  • Grandview, MO – Prohibited within city limits.
  • Independence, MO – Allowed from 10 AM to midnight.
  • Kansas City, MO – Prohibited within city limits.
  • Lee’s Summit, MO – Allowed from 10 AM to midnight; however, bottle rockets, illuminating torches, and roman candles. You must obtain a fireworks-use permit from a licensed fireworks vendor or from City Hall.
  • Liberty, MO – Allowed from 4 PM to 10 PM. Aerial fireworks are only allowed on plots of land three acres or larger.
  • Parkville, MO – Allowed from 10 AM to midnight. Only novelty fireworks (e.g. snakes, smoke balls, toy paper caps, and champagne bottle poppers) are allowed.
  • Raymore, MO – Allowed from 10 AM to midnight.
  • Raytown, MO – Allowed from 10 AM to 11 PM, but permit from City Hall or fire department is necessary.
  • Riverside, MO – Allowed from 10 AM to midnight; however, bottle rockets are prohibited.
